يتناول هذا البحث إسهامات الشيخ عثمان بن فودي في تطوير الثقافة العربية في دولة صكتو، من خلال التعريف بنيجيريا ودولة صكتو، والتعريف بالشيخ عثمان بن فودي وبيان مكانته العلمية والثقافية، مع الوقوف على اللغة الرسمية التي كانت سائدة في الدولة، ودراسة أثر اللغة العربية في ترسيخ الثقافة العربية ونشرها بين المجتمع. ويهدف البحث إلى إبراز جهود الشيخ عثمان بن فودي في خدمة اللغة العربية وعلومها، وبيان دورها في بناء الحياة العلمية والثقافية في دولة صكتو. وقد اعتمد البحث على المنهج التاريخي الوصفي والتحليلي، من خلال تتبع نشأة الدولة وحركة الشيخ العلمية، وتحليل مظاهر حضور اللغة العربية وأثرها الثقافي. وتوصل البحث إلى أن الشيخ عثمان بن فودي أسهم إسهامًا بارزًا في نشر الثقافة العربية وتعزيز مكانة اللغة العربية في المجال العلمي والثقافي، وأن مؤلفاته وتعاليمه العلمية أسهمت في توسيع دائرة استعمال العربية وترسيخها في المجتمع، كما أصبحت العربية وسيلة مهمة للتأليف والتعليم والتواصل العلمي، مما ترك أثرًا واضحًا في النهضة العلمية والثقافية في دولة صكتو.
English Abstract:
This study examines the contributions of Sheikh Uthman ibn Fodio to the development of Arabic culture in the Sokoto Caliphate. The research problem lies in the need to clarify the role played by Sheikh Uthman ibn Fodio in promoting Arabic language and culture and their contribution to the intellectual and cultural development of the Sokoto Caliphate. The study aims to introduce Nigeria and the Sokoto Caliphate, provide an overview of Sheikh Uthman ibn Fodio and his scholarly status, examine the linguistic context of the Caliphate, and highlight the role of Arabic in consolidating its intellectual and cultural life. The study adopts a historical, descriptive, and analytical methodology by tracing the emergence of the Sokoto Caliphate and Sheikh Uthman ibn Fodio’s scholarly activities, while analyzing the manifestations and cultural influence of Arabic during that period. The study finds that Sheikh Uthman ibn Fodio made significant contributions to the advancement of Arabic culture through his scholarly activities, educational efforts, and extensive writings. His works helped expand the use of Arabic in education, authorship, and scholarly communication, thereby strengthening its position within the intellectual life of the society. The study concludes that his contributions played an important role in fostering scholarly and cultural development in the Sokoto Caliphate.
