يتناول هذا البحث نشأة الشيخ عثمان بن محمد بن فودي, أحد أبرز علماء ومصلحي غرب إفريقيا، من خلال استعراض بيئته العلمية والاجتماعية في بلاد الهوسا، وأثر أسرته الصالحة وشيوخه في تكوين شخصيته العلمية والدعوية. كما يبرز البحث مراحل تعليمه، واتساع معارفه في علوم القرآن والحديث والفقه واللغة العربية، ودوره في نشر العلم والدعوة بين مختلف فئات المجتمع. ويركز البحث على مشروعه الإصلاحي الذي قام على تصحيح العقيدة، ومحاربة البدع والخرافات، وإحياء السنة، وإصلاح التعليم، والدعوة إلى العدل والحكم بالشريعة الإسلامية، مع بيان الوسائل التي اعتمدها في تحقيق الإصلاح، وما واجهه من تحديات سياسية واجتماعية انتهت بقيام دولة الخلافة في صكتو، التي أصبحت مركزًا للعلم والدعوة في غرب إفريقيا. كما يبرز البحث الأثر الحضاري والفكري لمشروعه الإصلاحي في ترسيخ الثقافة الإسلامية والعربية، وتأثيره المستمر في الحياة الدينية والعلمية في نيجيريا وغرب إفريقيا. ويخلص البحث إلى أن الشيخ عثمان بن فودي أسس مشروعًا إصلاحيًا متكاملًا جمع بين التربية والتعليم والدعوة والإصلاح الاجتماعي والسياسي، وأسهم في إحياء العلوم الإسلامية، ونشر اللغة العربية، وبناء نموذج حضاري ترك أثرًا عميقًا في تاريخ غرب إفريقيا الإسلامي. ويحتوي البحث على ثلاثة مباحث كالآتي:

English Abstract:
This study examines the early life of Sheikh Usman Bin Muhammad Bin Foudi, one of the most prominent scholars and reformers of West Africa, by exploring the scholarly and social environment of the Hausa lands and the influence of his righteous family and teachers on the formation of his intellectual and missionary personality. The study also highlights the stages of his education, the breadth of his knowledge in the sciences of the Qur'an, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), and the Arabic language, as well as his role in disseminating knowledge and promoting Islamic teachings among different segments of society. The study further focuses on his reform project, which was founded upon the correction of Islamic creed, the eradication of religious innovations and superstitions, the revival of the Sunnah, the reform of education, and the call for justice and governance according to Islamic law (Sharia). It also examines the methods he employed to achieve these reforms and the political and social challenges he encountered, which ultimately culminated in the establishment of the Sokoto Caliphate. The Caliphate subsequently became a major center of scholarship and Islamic propagation in West Africa. In addition, the study highlights the intellectual and civilizational impact of his reform movement in consolidating Islamic and Arabic culture and its enduring influence on the religious and academic life of Nigeria and West Africa. The study concludes that Sheikh Uthman bin Foudi established a comprehensive reform movement that integrated education, teaching, da'wah (Islamic preaching), and social and political reform. His efforts contributed significantly to the revival of Islamic sciences, the spread of the Arabic language, and the establishment of a civilizational model that left a profound and lasting legacy in the history of Islamic West Africa. The study is organized into three main sections:
