يتناول هذا البحث منهج الشيخ عثمان بن فودي في الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، من خلال دراسة كتابه «إحياء السنة وإخماد البدعة»، بوصفه أحد المؤلفات المعبرة عن مشروعه الإصلاحي في غرب إفريقيا. ويهدف إلى الكشف عن الأسس الشرعية والعلمية التي اعتمدها في تقويم الممارسات الدينية والاجتماعية، وبيان العلاقة بين التأصيل النظري والتطبيق العملي في دعوته. كما يعرض ملامح نشأته وتكوينه العلمي، وأثر بيئته وشيوخه في توجهاته، ودوره في خدمة السنة النبوية ونشر المعرفة الشرعية في بلاد الهوسا. ويعتمد البحث المنهج الاستقرائي لجمع النصوص المتصلة بموضوعه، والمنهج التحليلي لدراسة أصول الاستدلال وآليات الإصلاح، والمنهج التاريخي لفهم السياق الديني والاجتماعي الذي تشكلت فيه تجربته. وتوصل إلى أن منهج الشيخ يقوم على مرجعية القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية، وضبط مفهومي السنة والبدعة، والاستفادة من أقوال العلماء، ونقد العادات والممارسات المخالفة للأصول الشرعية. وأظهرت الدراسة أن مشروعه يتجاوز معالجة الشعائر إلى تصحيح الاعتقاد، وتهذيب الأخلاق، وإصلاح المعاملات والسلوك الفردي والجماعي، مع الجمع بين التعليم والدعوة والتأليف والعمل الإصلاحي. كما أبرزت عنايته بتصحيح المفاهيم الإسلامية، ورفض التقليد الأعمى، واشتراط العلم قبل ممارسة الأمر والنهي، ومراعاة الحكمة والتدرج والاستطاعة في التغيير. وتبين أن انتماءه إلى المذهب المالكي اقترن بعنايته بالاستدلال بالحديث النبوي، وأن الاستفادة من التراث العلمي كانت وسيلة لتفسير النصوص وتقويم الواقع وربط الأحكام الشرعية بحاجات الناس في مجتمعه. وخلص البحث إلى أن إحياء السنة وإخماد البدعة يمثلان مسارين متكاملين في رؤيته، وأن المعرفة الشرعية تؤدي وظيفة عملية في بناء المجتمع وإصلاحه. ويوصي بالتلقي عن العلماء الراسخين، وتعزيز وحدة المسلمين، والموازنة بين المصالح والمفاسد، وتقديم درء المفاسد عند التعارض، بما يحفظ استقرار المجتمع ويحقق مقاصد الإصلاح.
English Abstract:
This study examines Shaykh Usman Dan Fodio’s approach to enjoining good and forbidding evil through his work Reviving the Sunnah and Suppressing Innovation, an expression of his reform project in West Africa. It investigates the scriptural and scholarly foundations underlying his assessment of religious and social practices and explores the relationship between theoretical principles and practical reform. The study also considers his upbringing, scholarly formation, teachers, and historical environment, alongside his contribution to promoting the Prophetic Sunnah in Hausaland. It adopts an inductive method to collect relevant passages, an analytical method to examine patterns of argumentation and reform, and a historical method to contextualize his thought. The findings identify the Qur’an and Sunnah as the primary foundations of his approach, supported by careful definitions of Sunnah and religious innovation, engagement with earlier scholarship, and critical evaluation of established customs. His reform programme extended beyond ritual observance to encompass beliefs, ethics, social dealings, and individual and collective conduct. Teaching, preaching, writing, and practical action consequently formed interconnected dimensions of his mission. The study further highlights his concern with clarifying Islamic concepts, rejecting blind imitation, requiring sound knowledge before intervention, and observing wisdom, gradualism, and individual capacity when addressing wrongdoing. It concludes that reviving the Sunnah and countering religious innovation constitute complementary aspects of his reform vision. Finally, it recommends learning from qualified scholars, strengthening Muslim unity, and weighing benefits against harms, prioritizing the prevention of harm where competing considerations arise, to safeguard social stability and support the objectives of religious reform.
